If you have visited here before, you can probably see that I have changed the name of the blog again. I started blogging at 4URuthie to tell the story of our journey to adopt our 1st daughter. I changed it to Mountains for Maggie when we were praying for God to move mountains on behalf of our 2nd daughter. Well now it is no longer just Ruthie’s or Maggie’s stories. It is now our family's story, and the stories of those we share life with, as we Conquer Mountains together. Both ConqueringMountains.net and 4URuthie.blogspot will lead here.

Sunday Snapshot- Chinese New Year

We are getting better at celebrating Chinese New Year, especially when you consider where we started.
The first year after we brought Ruthie home, a friend of mine from China walked up to me at church and said, "Happy New Year."  I couldn't figure out for the life of me why she would wish me happy new year 3 weeks into January.  Then I went home, opened my Facebook, and figured out that I was way behind.

Last year, we visited the Forbidden Gardens in Katy which I thought was a great way to celebrate.

So this year I started seeing early all the great plans and creative ideas of the other adoptive families.  You guys are really impressive.  I am not to the point of baking cakes to look like dragons yet, but I did take red envelopes with chocolate gold coins in them to the kid's classes and talk a little about the holiday.

Next years goal, learn to make dumplings so we can prepare our own dinner instead of going with Chinese take out.

It's a learning process for all of us. Dumplings are my goal for next year too! Love her sweet outfit!

I missed the mid-Autumn festival this year. I felt like I blew it as the mom of a kid from China. We learn and grow. I won't forget it again and I made sure Cara had a great Chinese New Year!

We did the coins in the envelopes (thanks to Jidi) for our Good News Club kids since we are learning about twins who are Chinese and there with CEF. Then we prayed for the childen in China to be able to hear about Jesus. It is against the law there to tell anyone under 18 years about Jesus. Marge

Such sweet pictures!
I took the plunge this year and we made homemade dumplings for CNY. And, they actually were edible!!!
I got my recipe from the book Moonbeams, Dumplings, and Dragon Boats, but I plan on posting it on my blog later this week when I have time. It was pretty easy.

Sounds like you did great, Ginny!
Encouraging others to learn about their classmate's heritage and supporting your daughter's birth country is a lot, I think :)
Adorable pictures!!
